Hello my beautiful babes,

Todays post is a hard, yet easy an post for me to write. It has nothing to do with makeup or products, but everything to do with your mental health and wellbeing. There has been a buzz this year espcially with legendary singers leaving this world by taking their own life, and as someone who has been in that dark place I thought I would share 10 tips I have found works for me at one point of another since my diagnosis of depression anxiety.

A bit of a background for you guys;

I have been struggling with this mental illness for a few years now and I can honestly say Im stronger then I ever thought I would be. There was a time, my darkest point, where I could not get out of bed, refused to eat, and thought about doing horrible things to myself. I had so much self hatred. I had no support system. My relationship was at a braking point. I would get so worked up over something so small, or nothing at all. My brain firing off a million different things and emotions all at once, eventually shutting me down. I would get quite, or hostile and push the one person I loved more than anything away.

Fast forwarding a bit, between doctors, medications, finding the right support system, and learning to love myself, its been a long and tough and journey. I still have some improvements to make, no one is perfect. I still have down days, but they are no where near what they used to be and for that I am forever thankful for that. I still over think, and over react to a lot things, and I still sleep more then a normal human being should, but developing these tips over the year has helped me realize what I need and when.

I have sat down and wrote out these tips in no particular order to share with you guys. I hope at least one tip can help or bring you into a different mind set of how you can help yourself. At the end of the day you need to be a bad ass bitch who helps herself and take no prisoners, because you are the only one who can truly save yourself.

Tip #1. Listen to your body. What does it need? Are you hungry? Do you need more sleep? Do you need some alone time? Are you dehydrated? Attend to those needs first and foremost, your body can’t help you when its out of whack.

Tip #2. Get UP and get OUT! I always feel so much better after a long pampering shower after feeling like shit physically and or mentally. Once that is done I feel more confident to leave the house, even if its just for 5 minutes. Get outside and get some fresh air girl! Seriously. Even its its just sitting outside in your front or backyard, going for a quick walk or run, or running an errand, you can do it!

Tip #3. Get out of that head of yours. Since coming home for the summer I love going for long aimless drives to clear my head or work out situations alone, blaming music with the windows down (weather permitting). I tend to get a little too high strung over things I can’t control and end up blowing up; going for drives helps keep that at bay. I also love reading, literally taking into another world and another persons perspective. Whatever makes you stop thinking and just, be.

Tip #4. Vent. Tell someone you trust, the person you are having issues with, or a complete stranger WHY your feeling this way, even if there is not reason. Try using “I” statements. (I feel… When … I’d like this to happen next time…) Or just write it all down and get it out of your head, and delete to burn it. I can’t keep my thoughts to myself (again getting myself in trouble) and after its all said and done I feel so much better, like the weight of the world has lifted off my shoulders and I can go back to being myself.

Tip #5. Treat yo self! Sprue up your surroundings with a new candle, pillow, mug, or get a mani pedi, hair cut or colour, or have a home spa day. ( I tend to go a little… okay a lot… overboard with this tip) But I personally believe self worth is very important and if money is willing, you deserve a little sumthin sumthin!

Tip #6. Clean and reorganize your heart out. A fresh new outlook and cleaned place can do so much! I’m always going through my clothes and donating, switching things around on my night stand, or going full blown everything off the walls crazy clean. Keeping your space clean and clear is also a huge help, I don’t get around to making my bed a lot of the time, but I do notice how accomplished I feel when I do, as crazy as that seems.

Tip #7. Lets get physical. I’m no the most athletic but working up a sweat in a healthy way empowers your brain and body in such a way, you just can’t be mad at yourself anymore! It’s impossible to feel shitty once your down on the floor, heart beat going nuts, sweating buckets, out of breath ( I’m making it sound so much fun, right?) Personally, I love to dance my heart out wether it be alone or in a club, go for walks. But if your into going to the gym or some classes do that, whatever gets you up and moving!

Tip #8. Try something new. Go to a new club, restaurant, book store, coffee shop, expand your horizons and see what happens! Or if you live in a small town where theres nothing to do, do something your typically never would do (like going to the art gallery, or a park you don’t typically sit at).

Tip #9. Get away from your phone and reconnect with yourself, nature, or loved ones. Social media has taken up so much of our lives and its affecting the way we see and think of ourselves. Its affecting our brains and we don’t realize it until we take a step back. I was recently at a cottage I kept my phone in the house, and the amount of times I kept reaching towards my phone, just out of habit, to check Instagram or Facebook, for no real reason was shocking. I do love the inter web and I love taking and posting pictures as much as any blogger, its what makes you come to our blogs in the first place. But theres a fine line between going on your phone, and being obsessed with your phone.

Tip #10. (You made it!!) Breath. Sounds easy enough right? Sometimes its the smallest things that make us feel better. Focusing on your breathing, which should be slow and steady, and all the good in your life. If you have to write a list of things/people that make you happy, or say it out loud to yourself in the moment. We only have one life so don’t  focus on the negatives no matter how consuming they may feel.

You have made it to the end of my 10 tips!

I hope you take away at least one for yourself. Rome was not built in one day, so take it one day at a time. xo
